Dani Alves, the former Brazilian fullback for Barcelona, was found guilty of rape and received an 18-year prison term in Brazil.
A woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted by Alves last month in a Barcelona nightclub has filed an accusation against him.
After hearing from the woman and a witness on Friday, a judge in Spain remanded Alves in custody.
For raping a woman, Dani Alves received an 18-year sentence from the Brazilian federal court.
In the meantime, the player’s family has asked for permission to keep him in protective custody because they fear that other inmates will beat and sexually assault him.
